NORTH REEF MINING GROUP CC ROCK SOLID

When Francois Slabbert founded North Reef Mining in 1994, little did he and his future directors know that this enterprise would soon grow rapidly into a goliath mining services success story where no less than 500 employees work together as a winning team to achieve common goals to uphold their undying commitment to service excellence.

It was by chance that North Reef Mining’s four directors met in Spirit Word Ministries in Stilfontein and soon Francois and Madelein Slabbert, and shareholders Mandla Khumalo and Tshepo Mosaka took the reins together in 2012 with 60 dedicated employees. By applying different and unique motives, sheer perseverance and, above all, the willingness to stick together through thick and thin, it comes as no surprise that North Reef Mining currently have more than 500 employees on their payroll. The 4 directors believe in defining core values and communicating the company’s culture to every team member.

“Our accomplishments are granted by grace alone where we are all blessed with the ability to function by means of a winning team effort with the right approach. Working in the mining industry can be very challenging, but it can be done successfully. It’s all about faith, which is a reality,” assures CEO Francois. Madelein is North Reef’s Financial Director, Tshepo runs the Free State and Mpumalanga regions, and Mandla oversees Mergers and Acquisitions as well as the North West Province. Other key employees comprise Benna Koorsen (Administration Manager), Sonja Barnard (Contracts Manager), Petro van der Merwe (Logistics) and Louisa Fourie (Debtor and Creditor).

North Reef Mining offers blue chip mining companies a host of quality services that include material handling; loading and

hauling; crushing and screening of mine ore; demolishing; rehabilitation and open-cast/open-pit mining. The company currently has more than 200 reliable mining equipment units as well as 65 running side-tipper trucks that clients can rely upon. A specialised service offered by North Reef Mining, which is also a first for South Africa is the closing of shafts or ground filling with slime achieved by the back-filling of shafts with batching plants. For this purpose, they have recently acquired a scrubber to fill shafts with cement and lime. According to Francois, North Reef is also in the process of buying its very own mine.

The directors firmly believe in ploughing back into the communities they serve and their involvement here is solid proof thereof. “We regularly provide financial and food contributions to orphanages in the area and build churches, children’s homes and schools. North Reef also sub-contracts certain portions of its obligations to black-owned businesses.” Francois adds that they absolutely love to see communities better off, community development, community enrichment and skills transfer.

North Reefs’ special achievements speak for themselves. Achieving growth and success in a relatively short time and seeing how their employees develop from having absolutely no skills to fully qualified Code 14 drivers with experience, all add value to this ground-breaking company. North Reef Mining’s staff are focused and committed to working hard to finish the work as quickly and accurately as possible. The company is proud to acknowledge that no service has ever been terminated due to any shortcomings regarding safety requirements. “Through Grace alone, we are able…”
